The High Hawks have released a new single titled “Temperature Is Rising.” The offering is accompanied by a prescient lyric video, which uses a montage of retro found footage to get at some of the insidious nuances of social media. This marks the third preview single for the supergroup’s second full-length album Mother Nature’s Show, which is set to release on February 16.
The band’s latest artfully probes present political realities, with lyrics delivered by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth that note the divisive effect of the Internet. The new single is written by Lou Rogai and Carbone, the latter of whom also composed the video, which accents the song’s analysis with a provocative collage of lost media featuring clips from the Congress floor, ’60s Saturday morning cartoons and footage of the Trinity Test. On the song’s message, Carbone has written, “Social media has turned into a poison and it’s played a large part in the disconnect and dissonance in our society. ‘Temperature Is Rising’ tries to chronicle and address that.”
